So a lot of the songs ended up being about that journey, both individually and collectively, since we experience so much of our lives as a group. The songs were born out of a chunk of our mid-twenties, a formative time where we were all trying to figure ourselves out, find our place in the world, draw from past experiences and contextualise their meaning in the present. The lyrics and melody blend together to create a sense of both urgency and unease, emphasizing the way the relationship has taken over the singer's life.TC: How would you describe your new album to a stranger – the sound, the mood/tone, the lyrical preoccupations?ĭG: It was only after writing the album that we realised some lyrical threads. The singer is pulled in by the intensity of their partner's affection but also recognizes that it's not healthy or sustainable. Overall, "Heart Attack" captures the feeling of being in a relationship that is both exciting and dangerous. The chorus repeats, emphasizing the singer's sense of being swept up and controlled by their partner, while also acknowledging their own longing for the relationship to work out. The line "Spread roots wide in the back of my eyes and she never let it slow" suggests that while she put down roots in the singer's life and memories, she didn't let the relationship progress at a natural pace. The second verse indicates that the singer's partner was more of a performer than someone truly invested in the relationship. ![]() The opening lyrics suggest the singer had a difficult time seeing the truth of the relationship, as they "tried to cut through lies" but were "losing touch."
